A House Of Rust
Cold leaked out of every corner of the old home
Creaking walls spilling their sounds across the room
Wood decreasing in its color
In wonder
In compassion
I reached for the heat to keep you warm
Water running and the sound of winter silence
In secret
In hiding
You kept it all there
Outside trees painted black
Signs of true color
I’d hope to see them gold by the morning hour
In time
In question
I wiped the dust from the counter
Fresh and new underneath the rust
Clipped wings spread across the granite
You wear chaos well
In doubt
In confusion
Confided to be seen
I set a new picture on the shelf above
But Images of old leave you in drama
You stand taller in tragedy
The rain arrived
I collected all your grey
Attempting to make a sun
A house built on forest clouds
Dancing better in disaster
Shinning brighter in misfortune
I dreamt of us in sunlight
I fixed your shattered wings
You pictured us in black
A favor for the ruin
I saw the lights go out, but this time I left them
Removed your damaged feathers that fell
I head back to the garden planting my roots of color and sanity
I leave you in the old home
Rust caving in
You stay
You build
You always have worn the chaos well...
